We started our journey following our Sunday evening church service. Stephen knows we are not morning people so he was ready to get rolling. The drive would help the girls to get sleepy and we would all rest better. We finished loading and left out around 9 PM with our friends waiting on the corner and waving to us (they are the best).
We made it to Vernon, TX where we pulled the camper in for our first time boon docking at Walmart. If your ever going through this area the Walmart had RV hookups. It was a great place to stay.
We pulled out at 9 AM heading to Amarillo, TX to eat lunch at The Big Texan. It was ok food, but better atmosphere. The girls enjoyed it. We took a ton of pictures and headed over to Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
We are going to be visiting a lot of parks on the journey, so we went ahead and purchased a yearly pass. Let me just tell you this Park will not disappoint. We thought we would only stay about 15 minutes but ended up staying 2 hours. We were amazed at the beauty. The camp grounds were gorgeous although we couldn’t stay, we hope to go back for camping. There are many hiking trails just be sure to take your own water.
One last stop we had to do was Cadillac Ranch. This iconic place has been on our list since moving to Texas. The girls really enjoyed painting and posing with these old colorful cars. I believe it’s one of their favorite things we’ve done so far.
We also thought jump out get pics and get back on the road but ended up they loved it so much, we stuck around for about an hour. I know it’s just cars right? But they loved it! It’s a must see!
We finally got back on the highway traveling about 3 hours until reaching a rest stop in San Jon, NM. We pulled in for the night at a whopping 50 degrees, which was a nice break from the heat back home.
Stay tuned I will continue to share all of our kicks on Route 66 you!
